Sponsored by the Fulton River District

Park #551, “Kinzie Park” near Des Plaines and Kinzie Street, Chicago Illinois. On Tuesday, August 11, 2009 the Fulton River District Association sponsored its first “Movie in the Park.” With unusually cool weather, at dusk, hundreds of neighborhood residents and visitors congregated to the grassy rolling hills armed with blankets, lawn chairs, treats, friends and family. Popcorn was provided. Comfortably nestled in between Echelon Apartments, Jewel-Osco and the Blommer Chocolate Factory, attendees were greeted by Aaron from the Chicago Park District.

President of the Fulton River District Association Larry Gage thanked Maria Mikel who led the efforts to put on this memorable event. President of the Park Advisory Council, Trevor Mikel outlined upcoming park events which includes Madagascar 2 on September 1st, a Pumpkin Carving Contest for mid-October and a Lights Celebration for late-November. After a short film highlighting Chicago’s 2016 Olympics bid, the block buster movie Iron Man began. The Park Advisory Council members were ready to pick up the debris a large crowd is expected to leave and were thankful the respectful crowd departed the park without a single piece of debris behind.

Summer 2009 Mini Clean & Green

Summer 2009 Mini Clean & Green

Eleven Fulton River District residents met on Saturday, June 27, 2009 to continue efforts to clean up the neighborhood. Thanks to all who volunteered!

The residents weeded the flower beds north of the park at Kinzie and Des Plaines and continued to clean up in the empty lots along Kinzie to the west, behind Jewel. Nearly twenty bags of weeds and trash were collected and hauled away by the city. Although the temperatures were warm, the residents stuck to their plan and made a significant contribution toward improving the appearance of the area. Another Clean and Green event will take place in October; those interested should contact Maria Mikel at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
